Adriatic Coast
The white edge where pilgrimage, quarantine, and invoice learn to float
The Adriatic Coast is the Synod's white southern hinge: pilgrim piers, quarantine flags, cliff guns, fever wards, and profitable fraud.
Codex Ref. II.7.03-201
Battery Twelve
The gun agrees, within its arc
Battery Twelve is Saffron Bastion's cliff-gun answer to Demon-Lures: command from the Marshal, payments from the Courts, and no reach beneath the piers.
Codex Ref. II.4.09-012
Brine Choir
Wet boots, open throats, and the useful heresy beneath the piers
The Brine Choir is Saffron Bastion's tolerated under-pier congregation: heretical, useful, salt-lunged, and far too effective to burn.
Codex Ref. XI.1.07-001
Brine Fever closures
Ships wait at the waterline; release waits for paper
An A.S. 201 survey of maritime fever restrictions: Saffron's A.S. 112 catastrophe, continuing quarantine practice, and Nenos's disputed boom account. The Ledger records waiting and custody; it certifies no closure of the whole coast.
Codex Ref. VII.8.13-201
Brine Fever Winter
The dead became a proportion; the survivors became a jurisdiction.
In A.S. 112, brine-fever killed one in five at Saffron Bastion. Its aftermath brought a Quarantine Prefecture above the harbor and unlicensed mourning below.
Codex Ref. VII.8.12-112
Canon-Inquisitor Silex Marrow
The chisel arrives after the lie has learned masonry
Canon-Inquisitor Silex Marrow hunts sequences, not sinners: Saffron's profitable water, Archivolt's listening stone, and the names buried between them.
Codex Ref. III.2.01-201
Canon-Marshal Veyra Sable
The harbour balances; the water remains behind her
Canon-Marshal Veyra Sable commands Saffron Bastion's berths and guns. Twenty-three years at the helm, an unrecorded reliance on the Brine Choir, and a pending audit have not turned her desk toward the water.
Codex Ref. III.2.01-437
Coastal Registry
Corrections entered; machinery unaffected
The Coastal Registry is Doctrine's wet end of the file: classifying Saffron's hazards, correcting its lies, and leaving the machinery that profits from both running.
Codex Ref. III.3.07-201
Demon-Lures
The hook is holy when the bait has been notarized
Demon-Lures are Saffron Bastion's licensed bait-mechanisms: lantern, salt, false number, tone, and gun, all pretending invitation can be filed apart from bargain.
Codex Ref. XIII.1.31-001
Dock Union of the Low Nets
A harbor can wait for cargo; a drafted family cannot
The Ropehand Compact protects Saffron Bastion's dockhands with slow strikes, smuggling routes and knots. Three strikes won no concessions; the Chapterhouse drafted their families. Mercy saves ammunition.
Codex Ref. XI.5.03-201
Duesstairs
The steps tell you what you owe. The clerks decide how much.
Saffron Bastion's tax ascent: one hundred and forty-seven steps, each carved with a dues category. The invoice proves payment; the dry-pass grants release. The rich have another route.
Codex Ref. II.4.09-002
Gilt-Knives
The gilding is the claim paper; the knife settles the dispute
Saffron Bastion's salvage cartel sells exclusive wreck claims, fixes auction schedules, and keeps its dues current. The gilt is paper; the knives settle the rest.
Codex Ref. XI.1.08-001
Harbor Marshal Command
The berth may be refused; the gun need not explain
Saffron Bastion's armed harbor authority holds the berths, chains and cliff guns. Canon-Marshal Veyra Sable keeps the port supplied, the lure lanes ranged, and the cost entered as marine incidents.
Codex Ref. VIII.5.09-201
Insurance Courts
The storm arrives after the paperwork
Saffron's Insurance Courts turn wreckage into writs, writs into liens, and storms into assets; the pending audit asks why the paperwork arrived first.
Codex Ref. VIII.2.12-134
Insurance Courts of Saffron
The storm passes. The writs remain.
Saffron's civil courts turn wrecks into tradable writs, wages into liens, and storms into authority. Writ-Lector Odrin Vale remains in office; Canon-Inquisitor Marrow's audit remains pending.
Codex Ref. VIII.2.12-134
Lanternline Chandlers' Lodge
The guild that sells darkness by the hour
At Saffron Bastion, the Lanternline Chandlers' Lodge sells oil in public and darkness by the hour, keeping the harbour alive, priced, and properly afraid.
Codex Ref. XII.26.01-068
Pier Six
No service scheduled, no patrol lingers
A numbered pier in Saffron Bastion, where two missing Brine Choir singers are reportedly heard beneath the boards. No service is scheduled; no patrol lingers.
Codex Ref. II.4.09-006
Prefect Halden Greaves
The medicine supplies the cause; the Prefect supplies the duration
Prefect Halden Greaves keeps Saffron Bastion's fever logs meticulous and its holding yards full. His dry-pass restores legal standing; his quarantine hold suspends it. The medicine supplies the cause. He supplies the duration.
Codex Ref. III.2.01-1301
Quarantine Prefecture
Quarantine is mercy, once mercy has learned to count labour
Saffron Bastion's Quarantine Prefecture made fever a jurisdiction: dry-pass, holding yard, burn crew, suspended identity, and mercy with a labour quota.
Codex Ref. VIII.2.11-112
Saffron Bastion
Where quarantine is mercy, mercy is leverage, and the sea pays what it owes
The Synod's coastal chokepoint on the Adriatic — quarantine piers, cliff batteries, saffron flags, and one hundred and twenty thousand souls balanced on the edge of an audit. The sea pays what it owes.
